NATO chief says no involvement with Russia, but will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said at a meeting of the bloc’s defense ministers on Tuesday that NATO does not consider itself a party to the conflict with Russia but will continue to supply more sophisticated and heavier weapons. Ukraine.

“Both NATO and its allies are not parties to the conflict, and what we do as allies is to support Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said. Ukraine is defending itself against Russia, and of course we have the right to help Ukraine retain its right to self-defense.

Mr Stoltenberg said the supply of weapons to Ukraine was steadily increasing in line with what the war was all about.

“Initially we focused on the Javelins anti-tank missiles as well as light anti-tank weapons, and then we saw a steady demand for artillery and air defense systems, and the Allies,” he said. Decided to increase the delivery of those advanced weapons to Ukraine.

On February 24, 2022, Vladimir Putin launched a military operation in Ukraine in response to a request for assistance from the head of the Donbass Republic, which has so far lasted almost a year. The West then imposed tough sanctions on Russia and increased the arms supply to the Kiev government worth tens of billions of dollars.
